摘要: Objectives The goal of this study was to define electrocardiographic (ECG) and echocardiographic characteristics adolescent African athletes. Background Recent observations in athletes reported large prevalence left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy ECG abnormalities. No data, so far, exist for Africans, which comprise a growing proportion competitive/professional Methods included 154 soccer players participating at the 8th Under-17 Championship 2009, representing Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gambia, Guinea, Malawi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe. For comparison, 62 Italian with similar ages, sport achievements, training schedules were included. Results showed higher R5/S1-wave voltages than Caucasian (48.6 ± 12.1 mm vs. 34.1 8.9 mm; p Conclusions displayed abnormalities, including striking increase R/S-wave voltage, ST-segment elevation, deeply inverted or diffusely flat T waves by adolescence. LV remodeling characterized disproportionate wall thickening Caucasians but cavity size. Finally, distinctive peculiarities existed according country (and ethnic) origin.
