摘要: Benign external hydrocephalus in infants, characterized by macrocephaly and typical neuroimaging findings, is considered as a self-limiting condition therefore rarely treated. This review concerns all aspects of this condition: etiology, neuroimaging, symptoms clinical treatment, outcome, with emphasis on management. The based systematic search the Pubmed Web Science databases. covered various forms hydrocephalus, extracerebral fluid, macrocephaly. Studies reporting small children idiopathic were included, mostly focusing studies long-term outcome. A total 147 are majority however limited methodological quality. Several theories regarding pathophysiology symptoms, signs, findings underscore heterogeneity condition. Neuroimaging important differentiation between similar conditions. transient delay psychomotor development commonly seen during childhood. outcome scarcely reported, results varying. Although most seem to do well both initially long term, substantial number patients show temporary or permanent delay. To verify that truly benign condition, we suggest future research should focus effects surgical treatment opposed conservative
