摘要: To develop an animal model for acute carotid artery occlusion suitable studying the retinal sequelae of this disease, we performed bilateral and unilateral common ligations on mature pigmented rats. Bilateral ligation consistently resulted in a characteristic pathologic appearance, paralleling retinopathy occlusive disease humans, demonstrated by fundus photography fluorescein angiography. Any abnormalities found rats with were inconsistent less severe, although angiography proved to be more sensitive than ophthalmoscopy detecting these subtle changes. Pepsin-trypsin digests disclosed extensive disruption microvasculature eyes bilaterally ligated animals. This should prove useful examining reversibility ocular findings as well evaluating central nervous system after occlusion.
