Developmental expression pattern of the myelin proteolipid MAL indicates different functions of MAL for immature Schwann cells and in a late step of CNS myelinogenesis.

摘要: The myelin and lymphocyte protein MAL is a small proteolipid of 17 kDa expressed by oligodendrocytes Schwann cells. We have characterized the embryonic postnatal expression in rat nervous system situ hybridization, immunocytochemistry, western blotting compared it with that other constituents. In CNS, during late steps myelination: appears approximately 3-5 days later than basic protein. contrast, PNS, transcript detected prior to onset myelination, as early day 17. Our results demonstrate differentially cells, likely reflecting different functions proteolipid: (1) CNS points role final sheath formation, such stabilization compacted membranes. (2) immature cells suggests an important terminal differentiation step cell lineage peripheral myelination.
