摘要: A majority of adolescent smokers attempt cessation and report intentions to quit, yet little is known regarding the teen process. To advance inquiry into smoking process present describes development initial evaluation Ways Quitting questionnaire (WOQ), a measure designed assess strategies. All participants were recruited from four public high schools in metropolitan San Diego, California. Items wording format developed based on responses 36 six focus groups. The resulting included 28 Descriptive psychometric analyses conducted for 88 adolescents who had previously attempted cessation. For each WOQ item, respondents indicated whether they used given strategy and, if used, how helpful it was. most frequently reported methods avoidance, reduction, distraction These, along with social support strategies, received highest helpfulness ratings. Formal intervention approaches least also rated as helpful. Initial validation subsample revealed that use more reduction strategies was significantly associated length abstinence following attempt. findings thus provide utility criterion validity this newly measure.
