摘要: Abstract During the 6 years (1980–1985) at The Red Cross Children's Hospital 293 children required a tracheostomy during treatment of variety disorders. Of these 44% were under 1 year age. Indications are discussed which commonest was LTB. 3500 seen with laryngotracheobronchitis (LTB) 4.6% had tracheostomy—28% those requiring airway intervention. Overall 67% decannulated within 10 weeks and 92% year. For 56% one or more further procedures prior to decannulation required, including 34 who laryngotracheoplasty. Obstructing stomal granulation tissue be removed from 51 suprastomal collapse cause failure in 52 children. Use an expiratory valve as aid is discussed. Five died complications 25 medical disorder. One complication, laryngeal incompetence, particularly associated herpetic ulceration. Staphylococcus aureus Hemophilus influenzae main organisms cultured early weeks, Pseudomonas Streptococcus species predominating later.
