摘要: Objective: To examine complications of pediatric tracheostomy. Study Design: Retrospective. Methods: Chart review children undergoing tracheotomy or laryngeal diversion between 1990 and 1999. Results: Charts 142 were examined. Average age was 2.64 years (standard deviation [SD], 4.73 y) at surgery. Duration tracheostomy 2.08 (SD, 1.72 for those decannulated, 3.12 2.5 still with a stoma, length follow-up the whole group 4.14 8.69 y). At last follow-up, 56% had tracheostomy, 29% none, 15% died; one death tracheostomy-related. Three percent intraoperative complications, 11% before first tube change, 63% after change. Thirty-four trial decannulation; 85% these successful. Fifty-four decannulated complications. Number not related to duration follow-up. In-hospital mortality congruent predicted by PRISM (Pediatric Rate Mortality) scores. Conclusions: Forty-three serious involving loss airway (tube occlusion accidental decannulation) requiring separate surgical procedure. Deaths directly attributable occurred in 0.7%.
