From values to virtues: an investigation into the ethical content of English primary school assemblies

摘要: School assemblies are unique and important events in the lives of schools. They an opportunity for a head teacher to shape cele- brate ethos priorities school. However, discussion has stagnated because it is mired debate about legal compliance 1988 Education Reform Act its interpretation circular 1/94. This article reports on research project which investigated ethical ideas communicated primary school assemblies. It found that almost all sought communicate form virtue ethics. We observed promotion courage, kindness, loyalty responsibil- ity. Further, different virtues were emphasised schools depending their social location. For example, perseverance resil- ience often stressed from low socio-economic area. The concludes with examination implications our find- ings Act.
