Insulin-like effects of vanadate on glucokinase activity and fructose 2,6-bisphosphate levels in the liver of diabetic rats.

摘要: Abstract Streptozotocin diabetic rats showed more than a 4-fold increase in blood glucose levels, whereas hepatic glycogen, fructose 2,6-bisphosphate concentration, and 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase activity were decreased. The "total" the "active" (nonphosphorylated) form of enzyme decreased to different extent, resulting fall "active"/"total" ratio. Vanadate administration for 2-week period restored altered values without modifying significantly control animals any parameters studied. Glucokinase was essentially lacking animals, vanadate treatment about 65% its value, good correlation between recovery level being observed. These results show an insulin-like effect whole animal suggest that insulin possess similar actions on intracellular events.
