摘要: The research reported here explores the possibility of field-emission cathodes for use in EP that have ability to be re-generated when emitter tip becomes damaged. method re-generation takes advantage Taylor cone formation an effort solidify, or quench, operating liquid-metal-ion-source (LMIS) preserve sharp as a cathode. Electron emission I-V curves were taken after cones formed by quenching LMIS at different discharge currents. It is shown low 2 μA produced increase electron current compared with unquenched emitter, 53 nA 25 extraction voltage 2.7 kV. When ion quench was increased 3 and then μ μA, measured 210 1.02 Fitting characteristics using Fowler-Nordheim theory indicated radii small 80 nm during process.
