摘要: While rates of other medical illnesses have declined over the past several decades, suicide increased, particularly among adolescents. Prior research on biological underpinnings risk has remained limited. In this review, we describe a recent model conceptualizing as failure responses to acute stress. According model, youth who fail mount an adaptive stress response following exposure stressor are at for suicide. Although much more is needed, early evidence suggests that abnormal stress, such altered autonomic nervous system activity and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function, may underlie suicide, during transition adolescence. Overall, initial supports link between risk. However, future work incorporates makers environmental systems will sharpen our understanding when highest.
