摘要: Regime shifts—rapid long-term transitions between stable states—are well documented in ecology but remain controversial and understudied land use cover change (LUCC). In particular, uncertainty surrounds the prevalence causes of regime shifts at landscape level. We studied LUCC dynamics Tanintharyi Region (Myanmar), which contains one last remaining significant contiguous forest areas Southeast Asia was heavily deforested 1992–2015. By combining remote sensing methods a literature review historical processes leading to LUCC, we identified shift from forest-oriented state an agricultural-oriented 1997–2004. The triggered by confluence complex political economic conditions within Myanmar, notably ceasefires various ethnic groups military government, coupled with its enhanced business relations Thailand China. Government policies foreign direct investment enabling establishment large-scale agro-industrial concessions reinforced new agriculture-oriented prevented reversion original forest-dominated regime. Our approach integrating complementary analytical frameworks identify understand land-cover can help policymakers preempt future Tanintharyi, be applied study other regions.
