摘要: This paper investigates the effectiveness of a novel and cost-effective strengthening technique using Post-Tensioned Metal Straps (PTMS) at enhancing bond behaviour short lap spliced steel bars in reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Twelve RC beams with splice length 10d b (d = bar diameter) midspan zone were tested flexure to examine splitting failure. The effect confinement (no confinement, internal stirrups or external PTMS), diameter cover examined. results show that, whilst unconfined control failed prematurely due splitting, use PTMS enhanced strength by up 58 % resulted less brittle behaviour. Based on test results, new analytical model is proposed predict additional provided confinement. should prove useful design substandard elements.
