摘要: Background Adjuvant chemotherapy has improved the outcome of childhood malignant brain tumors in large randomized trials. With increasing survival rates, treatment toxicity become a matter concern. Radiation therapy and cisplatinum are known to be ototoxic. Methods We evaluated incidence factors predisposing ototoxicity children treated with “8 1” protocol Finland during 1986–1993. Thirty-five 82 survived for at least 1 year after diagnosis. Thirty these were old enough have audiogram. Results Seventeen 30 had normal hearing, seven hearing loss high frequencies, six (20%) severe speech range. The risk young age, cumulative dose cisplatinum, deteriorating renal function. In presence factors, was over 50%. Hearing frequencies could occur low doses but correlated doses. Conclusions Cisplatinum-induced is common, range also occurs, particularly may progress insidiously rapidly. Therefore test before each course important. © 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
