Prospective study of the effect of topical application of Mitomycin C in refractory pediatric caustic esophageal strictures.

摘要: BACKGROUND Esophageal strictures resulting from caustic ingestion in children are usually difficult to be managed, and surgical replacement is required for cases refractory frequent dilatation sessions. Topical Mitomycin C (MMC) has been recently used the management of resistant strictures. We evaluated efficacy MMC application treatment long esophageal METHODS This prospective study included 120 patients both sexes with (> 3 cm length). All were randomly divided into two equal groups using research randomizer program (1:1 randomization), group I underwent endoscopic therapy only II topical MMC. Follow-up was done regularly by assessing dysphagia score after 6 months management. The procedure repeated four times 2-week intervals.
