摘要: Users of search engines often abandon their searches. Despite the high frequency Web abandonment and its importance to engines, little is known about why searchers beyond that it can be for good or bad reasons. In this paper, we ex-tend previous work by studying using both a retrospective survey an in-situ method captures aban-donment rationales at time. We show although satisfaction common motivator abandonment, one-in-five instances does not relate satisfaction. also studied automatic prediction underlying reason ob-served abandonment. used features query results, interaction with result page (e.g., cursor movements, scrolling, clicks), full session. our classifiers learn accurately predict reasons observed Such accurate predictions help providers estimate user queries without clicks, affording more complete understanding engine performance.
