摘要: All children with evidence of xerophthalmia who were admitted to an inpatient facility for treatment ofsevere protein-calorie malnutrition and its complications compared other inpatients severe PCM but free from signs or symptoms vitamin A deficiency. Xerophthalmic older had more hypoproteinemia than without eye signs, undernourished by anthropometric criteria a comparison group matched age, sex, type PCM. Children lesions retarded in growth those minimal ocular signs. high rates bacterial infections, regardless their status. However, xerophthalmic highly significant increase the rate positive urine cultures. Mortality similar all study groups.
