Improved anticorrosion properties and electrical conductivity of 316L stainless steel as bipolar plate for proton exchange membrane fuel cell by lower temperature chromizing treatment

摘要: Abstract The lower temperature chromizing treatment is developed to modify 316L stainless steel (SS 316L) for the application of bipolar plate in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). performed produce a coating, containing mainly Cr-carbide and Cr-nitride, on substrate improve anticorrosion properties electrical conductivity between carbon paper. Shot peening used as pretreatment an activated surface reduce temperature. Anticorrosion interfacial contact resistance (ICR) are investigated this study. Results show that chromized SS exhibits better corrosion ICR value than those bare 316L. shows passive current density about 3E−7 A cm −2 four orders magnitude 13 mΩ cm 2 one-third at 200 N cm compaction forces. Therefore, study clearly states performance advantages using by PEMFC.
