摘要: A JUVENILE hormone of insects has now been extracted from Lepidoptera and identified as methyl-10-epoxy-7-ethyl-3,11-dimethyl-2,6-tridecadienoate1. Previous to this identification, many synthetic or naturally occurring chemicals were shown have juvenile activity, in some cases for a variety insects, other particular species2–4. It proved, however, extremely difficult demonstrate juvenilizing effects on any the Diptera with these materials5,6. This was unfortunate, course, because our knowledge genetics Drosophila, giant chromosomes general, could not be used analysis mechanism action hormone. Recently, material high activity obtained7 after treatment farnesoic acid ethanolic HCl. is mixture at least six compounds8, none which identified, its may due one, several, components. recently shown9 effect pupa Sarcophaga bullata; we wish report farnesoate derivative development Drosophila melanogaster. We shall also show that another mimic (farnesyl methyl ether) can affect expression mutant genes organism.
