Field Testing of an Integrated Surface/Subsurface Modeling Technique for Planetary Exploration

摘要: While there has been much interest in developing ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technology for rover-based planetary exploration, relatively little work done on the data collection process. Starting from manual method, we fully automate GPR using only sensors typically found a rover. Further, produce two novel products: (1) three-dimensional, photorealistic surface model coupled with ribbon of data, and (2) two-dimensional, topography-corrected radargram topography plotted above. Each result is derived onboard rover, as would be required exploration setting. These techniques were tested collected Mars analogue environment Devon Island Canadian High Arctic. transects gathered over polygonal patterned ground similar to that seen by Phoenix Lander. Using developed here, scientists may remotely explore interaction subsurface structure if they site.
