摘要: Purpose. To assess the effects of diabetes mellitus on corneal structure and function. Methods. The authors measured endothelial permeability to fluorescein deswelling for 7.5 hours after 2 hypoxic contact lens wear in 20 patients with who had nonproliferative retinopathy 21 age-matched control subjects. Central photographs were also taken. Corneal rates, expressed as percent recovery per hour (PRPH), open eye steady state (OESS) thickness estimated by nonlinear regression techniques. Results. OESS was greater than controls (562 ± 35 fim versus 539 24 fan, P = 0.02). During hypoxia, diabetic corneas swelled less (7.7% 1.8% 9.9% 1.6%, < 0.001) (3.55 0.83 X 10" 4 cm/min 4.14 0.68 cm/min, 0.02) controls. normoxia removal, however, similar rates permeabilities. autofluorescence increased (8.1 3.1 6.0 1.9 ng/ml equivalents, P= .005). cells two groups morphologically similar. Within group diabetes, those moderate larger coefficients variation cell area smaller percentages hexagonal mild retinopathy. Conclusions. Although thicker more autofluorescent corneas, during hypoxia they decreased permeability. normoxia, no difference found or rate. morphologic features appear be related severity diabetes.
