摘要: To determine the effectiveness of nicotine polacrilex combined with self-administered relapse prevention materials in maintaining smoking cessation, we conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial. Volunteers aged 18 to 65 years responding media announcements were required quit for 48 hours without assistance. Of 1844 potential participants, 136 medically excluded, 535 declined make attempt, and 573 unable quit, leaving 600 participants (35%) who randomized. Eight self-help modules mailed weekly. Gum was used either ad lib urges or on fixed, hourly schedule (12 pieces per day). Only 15% subjects each gum group stopped using altogether because side effects, but only 20% groups 40% fixed-dosage at least eight day during first week. The abstinence rates (for seven days) six-month follow-up 31% both active 22% no groups. Relapse two about half those Nicotine may be useful adjunct minimal contact cessation formats, which have broad appeal. Also, programs assist physicians helping patients maintain polacrilex.
