摘要: Development of inhibitors and vaccines that mitigate rumen-derived methane by targeting methanogens relies on knowledge the present. We investigated composition archaeal communities in rumens farmed sheep (Ovis aries), cattle (Bos taurus) red deer (Cervus elaphus) using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) to generate fingerprints 16S rRNA genes. The total were relatively constant across species diets, less variable diverse than bacterial communities. There diet- ruminant-species-based differences community structure, but same dominant archaea present all rumens. These members three coherent clades: related Methanobrevibacter ruminantium olleyae; gottschalkii, thaueri millerae; genus Methanosphaera. Members an group unknown physiology, designated rumen cluster C (RCC), also RCC-specific DGGE, clone library analysis quantitative real-time PCR showed their gene sequences very made up average 26.5% archaea. RCC not readily detected DGGE patterns genes because no single sequence type was abundant enough form bands.
