摘要: The oral cavity is perpetually colonized by different species of microorganisms and at times it difficult to characterize the periodontal pathogen causing breakdown tissue bone. But over years, based on scientific knowledge, has been observed that various gram negative anaerobic bacteria have involved with initiation of disease. Based literature reviews, a study was undertaken to investigate antimicrobial effect Anacardium occidentale (cashew) leaf extract Porphyromonas gingivalis Prevotella intermedia. Methanol aqueous extracts cashew leaves were prepared. Its activity against P. gingivalis P. intermedia tested using agar diffusion method various dilutions 75 μ, 50 μl, 25 10 μl 5 respectively. 0.2% Clorhexidine gluconate (CHX) was used as control. Cultures gingivalis strains maintained Kanamycin blood agar. agar plates then incubated 37?C for 72 hours after which zone of inhibition measured mean recorded each test solution. results this demonstrated that, both intermedia, highest concentration (75 μl) of both extracts showed maximum action. For ginigvalis, the aqueous significant inhibitory compared to the methanolic (p = 0.005), comparable to that CHX. P. intermedia, similar being more effective 0.007), however, CHX most effective compared 0.007). This revealed efficient antimicrobial activity & Hence, preliminary suggests that action A. occidentale could be utilized for preparation chemical plaque control formulations.
