摘要: Conservation planners need reliable information on spatial patterns of biodiversity. However, existing data sets are skewed because some ecosystems, taxa, and locations underrepresented. We determined how many articles have been published in recent decades the biodiversity different countries their constituent provinces. searched Web Science catalogues Citation Index (SCI) Social (SSCI) for biodiversity-related from 1993 to 2016 that included country province names. combined research publication frequency with other provincial-scale factors hypothesized affect likelihood activity (i.e., economic development, human presence, infrastructure, remoteness). Areas appeared understudied relative expected based site climate likely inaccessible researchers reasons, notably armed conflict. Geographic bias is most concern remote areas sub-Saharan Africa South America. Our model may help compensate biases conservation planning by revealing extent needs low cost redoing this analysis annually.
