摘要: The federally endangered Alabama lampmussel (Lampsilis virescens) has been presumed extirpated in the Emory river, TN for almost four decades. In fall of 2011, three specimens that were morphologically identified as L. virescens (based on external shell morphology) collected from river. significance such a find led biologists to take noninvasive tissue sample each individual genetic confirmation. Approximately 400 nucleotides mtDNA COI gene sequenced along with two samples Paint Rock DNA sequence data was also obtained Genbank other Lampsilis sp. Maximum parsimony and Bayesian phylogenetic methods revealed strong support clade consisting putative river known (Paint origin) sister all taxa. These results indicated individuals indeed virescens.
