摘要: Theconventionaluseofradiotherapyisforlocaltumorcontrol.Radiotherapyoftheprimarytumorcanprevent the development of distant metastases, but this modality is generally not effective for treating preexisting systemic disease. However, radiation-induced tumor destruction may be considered a novel strategy in situ cancer vaccination, which antigens released from dying cells presented an immunostimulatory context. Moreover, radiation has been demonstrated to induce immunogenic modulation various types by altering biology surviving render them more susceptible T cell– mediated killing. Finally, radiotherapy typically favorable toxicity profile and associated with absence ofsystemicimmunosuppression.Together, thesepropertiessuggestthatradiotherapymayserveasanimportant component combinatorial immunotherapies aimed at augmenting antitumor immunity. Here, we provide overview modulations immune system that harnessed therapy. Cancer Immunol Res; 1(5); 280–4. 2013 AACR.
