摘要: Reticuloendothelial system dysfunction has been suggested as an explanation for the increased susceptibility to infection in patients with obstructive jaundice. In present study, response of cholestatic rats a bacterial challenge was investigated and uptake bacteria by their Kupffer cells examined electron microscope. Rats underwent bile duct ligation (BDL, n = 8) sham celiotomy (SC, were allowed recover 10 days. They then injected 10(9) Staphylococcus aureus IV killed at intervals 15, 30, 60, 180 minutes after injection. Two from each group interval. Quantitative blood cultures performed, specimens liver lung obtained quantitative culture processed microscopy. Bacteria rapidly cleared bloodstream SC animals but persisted BDL rats. Electron microscopy consistently demonstrated within cell phagocytic vesicles both interval selected. There no morphologic difference these between two groups. Bacteremia persists subjected despite rapid apparently normal vesicles. This study suggests defect intracellular killing bacteria, impairment delivery RE cells, or combination factors.
