摘要: Empirical research is needed to verify that the DSM-5 proposed diagnostic criteria for non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) disorder provide a valid and clinically meaningful symptom set. The current study used data-driven methods examine validity of frequency recency thresholds (i.e., Criterion A) NSSI disorder. Data were collected from random sample (n = 2206) undergraduates. Participants completed counter-balanced questionnaires assessing frequency, recency, functions NSSI, psychopathology symptoms, indicators distress functional impairment. Discriminant analyses identified significant differentiation between 10 or more acts 1–9 acts. Groups also differentiated with split on less than 12-months ago ago. After re-grouping into categories based new 12-month threshold, 10+ group reported significantly including higher scores affect regulation, self-punishment, sensation seeking, subthreshold group. worse psychopathology, greater distress, impairment both controls (no history). These findings indicate may be too liberal, offer support increasing diagnosis ensure clinical utility.
