摘要: maternal haploid (mh) is a strict effect mutation that causes the production of gynogenetic embryos (eggs are fertilized but only chromosomes participate in development). We conducted cytological analysis fertilization and early development mh eggs to elucidate mechanism paternal chromosome elimination. In eggs, as wild-type male female pronuclei migrate appose, first mitotic spindle forms, both parental sets congress on metaphase plate. contrast control sister chromatids fail separate anaphase division. As consequence chromatin stretches forms bridge telophase. During three embryonic divisions, damaged progressively eliminated from spindles organize around chromosomes. A majority do not survive deleterious presence aneuploid nuclei rapidly arrest their development. The rest develop die before hatching. phenotype highly reminiscent developmental defects observed by ms(3)K81 mutant males produced incompatible crosses Drosophila harboring endosymbiont bacteria Wolbachia.
