摘要: Abstract Objective The aim of the current study was to evaluate hepatoprotective action leaves Adenanthera pavonina against isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF)-induced liver damage in experimental animals. Methods Five groups six rats each were selected for study. A methanolic (50%) extract A. pavonina at a dose 100 200 mg/kg as well silymarin 100 mg/kg administered orally once daily 28 days INH + RIF treated groups. serum levels glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), glutamate pyruvate (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), bilirubin, total protein, albumin lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) estimated along with activities superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, glutathione, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Histopathological analysis carried out assess injury tissue. Result safe up 2000 mg/kg. significantly elevated enzymatic SGOT, SGPT, ALP, bilirubin LDH due treatment restored near normal dependent manner after A. pavonina. Also increased level protein towards by leaves. In anti-oxidant studies significant increase catalase observed. addition, also prevented elevation hepatic malondialdehyde formation intoxicated manner. biochemical observations supplemented histopathological examination rat sections. Conclusions These findings suggested that exhibited effects induced compared standard drug silymarin.
