摘要: The effect of Adenanthera pavonina (AP) seed extract on the blood pressure normotensive rats was evaluated. Twelve adult male Wistar divided into 3 groups 4 animals each were used and treated orally with normal saline (control group), propanolol (positive control, given at 1mg/kg) 200mg/kg AP over a 4- week period. Condon manometer to measure mean arterial pressure. animal 60mmHg, those 23mmHg while group 30mmHg. Phytochemical screening showed that contained cardiac glycosides, tannins, saponins, alkaloids flavonoids. Cyanogenetic glycosides anthraquinones absent. sodium level for significantly lower than control group. total bilirubin, protein globulin fraction higher in compared Histopathological examination did not cause any significant lesion changes liver, kidney even testes. study have potential lowering effect. serum biochemistry may suggest has tonic kidneys liver these organs play central role drug metabolism. Absence kidney, testes indicate plant is safe medicinal use.
