摘要: Purpose The incidence of infectious endophthalmitis associated with intravitreal injection (IVI) steroid has been reported to be as high 0.87%. This study was designed investigate whether the antimicrobial activity methotrexate (MTX) alters or course bacterial IVI in a rabbit model. Methods A model induced by Staphylococcus epidermidis (S) established. Six groups rabbits had sterile balanced salt solution (BSS), MTX (400 microg), dexamethasone (Dex, 200 S, S and (S-MTX), (S-Dex). On days 0, 1, 3, 6, 10, 14, total intraocular inflammation measured each animal. Vitritis graded degree vitreal haze. An tap performed on two animals from S-Dex, S-MTX. histopathologic day 14. Results No observed control BSS, MTX, Dex. Group S-Dex highest group S-MTX least ocular vitritis scores 3 difference among is significant (P = 0.046 P 0.001, respectively). Live bacteria were isolated only S-Dex. Pathology revealed severe destruction intact structures Conclusions appears reduce risk development compared may safer alternative than treating noninfectious uveitis.
