Thyroid Hormone Regulation of Glucose Homeostasis in the Miniature Pig

摘要: The effect of different thyroid states on glucose homeostasis was investigated during metabolic adaptation to starvation in the conscious unrestrained miniature pig. Moderate hyperthyroidism increased rate turnover, whereas hypothyroidism without effect. Glucose recycling elevated hyperthyroid pigs, and reduced after thyroidectomy. Supplementary doses T4 normalized total recycling. clearance pool size were unaffected by hormones. During serum insulin showed a similar decrease all states; glucagon euthyroid hypothyroid although it already fed state. Serum cortisol levels varying enhanced hypothyroid-T4-treated pigs.
