摘要: Microglial activation has been proposed to be involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia (SCZ). We hypothesized that dystrophic alterations oligodendrocytes previously reported prefrontal white matter SCZ might associated with microglial acute state SCZ. White cortex (BA10) was studied post-mortem brain tissue from 21 cases and 20 normal controls. The group included 12 subjects predominantly positive symptoms 9 negative symptoms. Electron microscopy applied estimate cell density, size, volume fraction (Vv) number (N) organelles adjacent microglia myelin, neurons capillaries not microglia. Cell density changed as compared Vv N mitochondria were significantly decreased, while vacuoles endoplasmic reticulum lipofuscin granules increased either or myelin patients displaying control group. There no significant differences between myelin. also peri-capillary oligodendrocytes. effect clinical subgroups on parameters peri-neuronal Though many ameboid found samples, we provide quantitative evidence oligodendrocyte dystrophy is
