摘要: Abstract The breakdown and repair of the retinal pigment epithelium diffusion barrier after intravenous injection sodium iodate was investigated using horseradish peroxidase as a morphological tracer. Four days iodate, histological examination revealed widespread destruction epithelium, confirmed by tracer studies showing marked barrier. Horseradish penetrated freely from preretinal depot to choroid, also following injection, into sensory retina. During next weeks gradually replaced heterogenous cell layer. Approximately 4 this layer well established showed tortuous intercellular spaces and, in some places, junction-like appositions between adjacent cells. In spite this, still able penetrate both direction, indicating that not re-established. early 4-day stage, late penetration retinochoroidal direction clearly more extensive than chorioretinal direction. It is suggested finding due bulk flow fluid out eye through retina choroid.
