摘要: Abstract The use of voided urine specimens for bacteriological culture in dogs is discouraged because contamination from external genitalia could lead to misinterpretation laboratory results. Quantitative culturing and defining significant bacteriuria increase the usefulness specimens. However, limited evidence exists cut-offs currently recommended. aim this study was evaluate accuracy current veterinary cut-off values canine urine. A secondary investigate if improved when applying qualitative criteria used humans. Paired were collected by both cystocentesis voiding, quantitative cultures performed within same day. Cystocentesis as reference standard with a ≥1000 colony forming units (CFU)/mL. Voided compared using: (1) ≥100,000 CFU/mL; (2) various depending on (sex, clinical signs complicating factors), adapted human guidelines. Ninety-four suspected urinary tract infection (UTI) included analysis. yielded an 94% sensitivity specificity (95% confidence intervals [CI] 0.81, 0.99) CI 0.86, 0.98), respectively. Applying guidelines did not improve overall (89%), 97% 1.00) 86% 0.77, 0.92), value ≥100,000 CFU/mL appropriate determining majority UTI are refrigerated cultured day collection.
