PATHOLOGICAL STUDY ON MUCOSAL CHANGES IN SMALL INTESTINE OF RAT BY ORAL ADMINISTRATION OF RICIN: I. Microscopical Observation

摘要: A histological study on small intestine of Wistar rats after oral administration ricin, a proteinous toxin from castor bean seeds, was carried out. In Experiment I, the jejunum examined at 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 24, and 40 hours ricin 30 mg/kg. II, administered dose 3, 30, 60 mg/kg, 5 jejunum, mid-portion, ileum were examined. For comparison, 0.5 mg/kg intraperitoneally hemagglutinin (CBH) orally. both experiments, changes mucosa essentially similar dependent time-lapse respectively, which atrophy villus, elongation crypt, degeneration epithelium, decrease goblet cell, fusion intervillous epithelia, infiltration neutrophils eosinophils, dissociation between epithelium lamina propria. These most manifest in that contacted with first high concentration. contrast, intraperitoneal caused only propria CBH milder atrophic changes. The evidences suggest mucosal by direct contact ricin.
