摘要: Objective To assess the effects of an intra-articular (IA) lidocaine or bupivacaine injection on synovial fluid (SF) biomarkers cartilage metabolism. Study Design Experimental. Animals Horses (n = 6). Methods The study had 2 components, each with identical design: first arm assessed (0.5%) IA in intercarpal joints and, after a 2-week washout period, second was conducted to evaluate (2%) tarsocrural joints. The mares were randomly assigned receive test local anesthetic target joint placebo (0.9% NaCl) contralateral joint. After treatments reversed, yielding 6 for treatment. SF samples collected measurement metabolism. Results IA induced significant increase both markers matrix synthesis (CS846–aggrecan and CPII–type II collagen) suggesting anabolic effect. Bupivacaine also resulted unanticipated decrease collagen degradation (C2C C1,2C). Conclusions These results reveal effect single injections anesthetics metabolism. Although biomarker not increased, it is possible that response because undetected insult, requires further investigation.
