摘要: Summary Livestock depredation by the snow leopard, Uncia uncia, and wolf, Canis lupus, has resulted in a human-wildlife conflict that hinders conservation of these globally-threatened species throughout their range. This paper analyses alleged economic loss due to livestock carnivores, retaliatory responses an agro-pastoral community around Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary Indian trans-Himalaya. The three villages studied (80 households) attributed total 189 deaths (18% holding) over period 18 months wild predators, this would amount per household equivalent half average annual capita income. financial compensation received villagers from Government amounted 3% perceived loss. Recent intensification seems related 37.7% increase holding last decade. Villagers have been killing though apparently not leopard. A self-financed scheme, modification existing pens are suggested as area-specific short-term measures reduce conflict. need address problem increasing long run is emphasized.
