Prevalence of allergic rhinitis and nasal smear eosinophilia in 11- to 15 yr-old children in Shiraz

摘要: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common condition among schoolchildren. The prevalence rate of AR differs countries and even regions within the same country. objective this study was to determine nasal symptoms signs smear eosinophilia in 11- 15-yr-old children Shiraz. A total 4584 aged 11-15 yr both sexes were surveyed from May 1995 April 1996, (sneezing, rhinorrhea, blockage, itching, color change, mucosal swelling, wetness, crease), based on questionnaire ear, nose throat (ENT) examination recorded. In addition, smears taken secretions stained. results compared with related 340 healthy children. 1008 (22%) schoolchildren had (based questionnaire), 445 (9.7%) identified as having ENT specialist examination), 226 (5.8%) associated questionnaire, positive for eosinophilia). Nasal present 274 (62%) AR. This survey showed that high diagnostic specificity 96% sensitivity 62% seems be potentially valuable test
