摘要: Eukaryotic cells store excess fatty acids as neutral lipids, predominantly triacylglycerols and sterol esters, in organelles termed lipid droplets (LDs) that bulge out from the endoplasmic reticulum. LDs are highly dynamic contribute to diverse cellular functions. The catabolism of storage lipids within is channeled multiple metabolic pathways, providing molecules for energy production, membrane building blocks, signaling. have been implicated a number protein degradation pathogen infection processes. may be linked prevalent human diseases marked potential biofuel production. knowledge accumulated on recent years provides foundation diverse, even unexpected, future research. This review focuses advances LD research, emphasizing physiological roles model system budding yeast.
