摘要: Background: The significance of circumferential resection margin (CRM) involvement in oesophageal cancer surgery is controversial. This study investigated the relationship between CRM involvement, locoregional recurrence and survival, after alone or with neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: Patients operated on by one surgeon at a tertiary referral centre October 1997 May 2004 were identified from prospective database. Results: Some 242 patients underwent oesophagectomy; 91 had alone, 142 chemotherapy nine chemoradiotherapy. Among histologically confirmed T3 tumours, 26 (55 per cent) 47 who compared 27 (31 88 completed two cycles (P = 0·005). Thirty-seven (42 89 negative developed recurrence, 33 (59 56 positive 0·032); median survival was 28 12 months respectively < 0·001). Cox multivariable regression analysis as an independent prognostic factor 0·006). Conclusion: A predictor overall resection. There has been significant decrease introduction chemotherapy.
