摘要: Elderly persons with health problems and physical limitations have reduced independence. Since poor functional ability is a known risk factor for disease among older populations, including oral disease, this study was undertaken to assess whether salivary defense factors the stress hormone cortisol are significant markers dependence. Oral examinations; microbial analyses; interviews using Activities of Daily Living (ADD index, Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) Perceived Life Stress Questionnaire (PLSQ) were conducted 123 dentate subjects. Of subjects, 80 lived independently in community or apartments at Baycrest Centre Geriatric Care Toronto, Canada, 43 resided nursing home Hospital. Whole saliva samples assayed total secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA), sIgA1, sIgA2, protein ELISA. Dependent residents home/hospital scored significantly lower nutritional assessment, had higher mean PLSQ scores, increased concentrations, flow rates comparison ambulatory community/apartments. In multivariable logistic regression, associated dependence were: being male, perceiving income as inadequate, having low rate drinking less than 5 cups water per day. These results indicate that may be useful dependence; however, these predict decline cannot confirmed until longitudinal studies conducted.
