摘要: Abstract Uma Devi, P., Ganasoundari, A., Vrinda, B., Srinivasan, K. and Unnikrishnan, M. Radiation Protection by the Ocimum Flavonoids Orientin Vicenin: Mechanisms of Action. In previous studies, flavonoids, orientin vicenin, that were isolated from leaf extract sanctum, found to protect mice against radiation injury. Several flavonoids are known be good antioxidants. Therefore, effect vicenin on radiation-induced lipid peroxidation in vivo their antioxidant activity vitro studied. Adult injected intraperitoneally with 50 μg/kg or exposed whole-body 3 Gy γ radiation. Lipid was measured liver 15 min 8 h postirradiation. The orientin/vicenin (10–500 μM) studied measuring inhibition hydroxyl radicals generated Fenton reaction (Fe3+-EDTA-ascorbic acid-H2O2) vitro. compounds also tested for possible pro-oxidant iron chelation...
