摘要: Abstract: Breast carcinoma is the most common malignancy inwomen. Estrogen an important growth factor for breasttumor that plays role in regulating prolifera-tion and differentiation of normal malignant mammaryepithelial cells. Nuclear morphometry metallothioneins(MTs) are indicators proliferation have been used aspredictors prognosis many tumors. The present studyaimed to study mean nuclear area (MNA) MT; estrogenreceptor (ER) expression fibroadenoma (FA), ductal carci-noma situ (DCIS), infiltrating (IDC) ofthe breast. Also MNA MT will be correlatedwith histologic grade ER status breast carcinoma. Breasttissues from 18 patients with FA, 10 DCIS, 40patients IDC were this study. MTexpression; as markers; investigated andcorrelated status. All cases 7 out cases(70%) DCIS 23 40 (57.5%) werepositive ER. cancer cells was significantly largerthan benign tissue. A significant directcorrelation found between grades.MNA ER-negative carcinomas larger thanthat ER-positive In tissue, myoepithelial consistently expressed protein. Fourout (40%) 24 cases(60%) positively stained MT. positivity wasdirectly correlated IDC. There wasa highly inverse correlation ERoverexpression. From study, it concluded invasiveductal breast, large MToverexpression grades ERnegativity. Therefore, overexpression maybe possible more aggressive lessdifferentiated carcinoma.Key Words: estrogen receptor, tumors, nucleararea, metallothionein(Appl Immunohistochem Mol Morphol 2008;16:108–112)
