摘要: OBJECTIVES To use MRI in a novel way to image and quantify the changes occurring substantia nigra Parkinson9s disease. METHODS Six patients with idiopathic disease were compared six age matched control subjects. The subjects imaged using combination of pulse sequences hypothesised be sensitive cell loss. RESULTS images showed patterns change Highly significant differences between population found (p CONCLUSIONS This methodology suggests possibility detecting presymptomatic those judged at risk, also confirming diagnosis early Furthermore, technique seems hold promise as means for staging disease, possibly differentiating other forms parkinsonism.
