摘要: Population geneticists have long sought to estimate the distribution of selection intensities among genes diverse function across genome. Only recently DNA sequencing and analytical techniques converged make this possible. Important advances come from comparing genetic variation within species (polymorphism) with fixed differences between (divergence). These approaches been used examine individual for evidence selection. Here we use fact that time since divergence allows combination data genes. In a comparison amino-acid replacements mustard weed Arabidopsis those fruitfly Drosophila, find predominantly beneficial gene substitutions in Drosophila but detrimental Arabidopsis. We attribute difference mating system partial self-fertilization, which corroborates prediction population genetics theory high frequency inbreeding are less efficient eliminating deleterious mutations owing their reduced effective size.
