摘要: Abstract Dried and ground rhubarb stalk fiber containing, on a dry weight basis, 74% total dietary (66% insoluble 8% soluble) was prepared from plants grown in the province of Alberta, Canada. Effect this source plasma liver concentrations cholesterol triglycerides as well hepatic microsomal activities β-hydroxy β-methyl coenzyme A reductase (HMGR) acyl CoA: transferase (ACAT) were examined mice receiving ad libitum semi-synthetic diet containing 0.5% cholesterol. Feeding cholesterol-enriched for 4 weeks presence 5% resulted significantly lower than those animals where substituted by cellulose fiber. Dietary supplementation accelerated ACAT activity. In diet, activity restored to level found fed cholesterol-free diet. On other hand HMGR inhibited remained unaffected addition These results indicate that has lipid-lowering effect which may not be mediated via alterations synthesis metabolism
