摘要: Using 5 years of patch occupancy data for 384 habitat fragments, we evaluated population and dynamics the black-tailed prairie dog in urban remnants rapidly developing landscape Denver, CO, USA. Specifically, factors, including fragment area, age, connectivity, that characterize fragments most likely to be colonized by dogs, as well those experiencing local extinctions. In addition, determined which types were often removed land development. Sites proximity colonies more dogs. Local extinctions common on isolated colonies, older extirpated human activity. general, smaller patches at highest risk being lost Our results provide observations dynamic changes distribution a potential keystone species an can used inform island biogeographic metapopulation models wildlife persistence landscapes. Although populations are currently decline, direct result activity, suggest dogs this area persist with appropriate management.
